Sweet Basil combines excellent pizza, superior service, and a family atmosphere for a restaurant experience like no other. Dan opened Sweet Basil in 2008 to offer Clevelanders an alternative to the typical thick-crust pizzas of nationwide chains. At Sweet Basil each thin crust pizza is hand-tossed and generously topped with only the freshest ingredients.

"Joyce said that he is confident that his pizza will beat out other restaurants that sell pizza because of the way his pizzas are made.
All Sweet Basil, pizzas are made from scratch on the same day that the pizza is ordered. The ingredients are mostly locally bought from Canturbury Creek Gardens and pre-roasted before being put onto a pizza.
The dough is hand-tossed and made from scratch. The pizzas are cooked in a stone deck oven rather than a commercial conveyor belt oven.
“We get here in the morning and begin prepping everything,” Joyce said. “We may not open until 11:30 a.m. most days, but we are here long before that making the dough and sauce and prepping the toppings because we don’t have leftovers to use. We wouldn’t use them even if we did.”"
